A tootie, some sillies and some scaries

OK, my toot is that I got another LO picked up for Canadian Scrapbooker's magazine. Now that doesn't mean that it will be published, as I learned that lesson. So I'm just saying it was picked up as possibly being published.I have to get it ready to send in... Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The silly is that I ended up in an ambulance yesterday afternoon! I was getting out of the truck to go to the post office and fell and split my back of my head open on the step of the truck (or I think it was the step) I went in to tell the postal worker there that it was very slippery out there and that I fell. When I put my hand on my head and took it down, I saw BLOOD!!!!!!!!!! So, I told the ladies to get ready because I would probably be fainting in the next few seconds! Well, guess what ...I did! There were a couple of people at the post office who were there and got a towel and started wiping my face as I was fainting and coming to and fainting again! It was mostly a blurrrrrrrrrrrr, but my FIL came in (they live across from the post office and someone went over to tell him what had happened) and everyone was saying that I needed stitches in it and that they were calling the ambulance because I could have a concussion.Well, I didn't really want to go on the ambulance!!! But they insisted , so they dispatched the ambulance to the post office. That's the silly part...At the same time-this is the scary part coming now!!!- the post office worker got a call from her husband who is the bus driver for a group of our school kids. He was telling her that there had been an accident with the bus and that she needed to call an ambulance there immediately as it had been an accident involving the school bus (full of kids!!!) and a car. So now, here I was with a little cut on my head, with the ambulance showing up at the post office for ME when they needed it at the scene of the bus/car collision! Well, I started crying and saying I don't need the ambulance and to get the ambulance to the accident. So that's what they did, as per my request. The ambulance turned around at the post office and took off to the other scene. In the meantime the ambulance from the next town had been dispatched so they told them to come here to get me....Oh boy! So, here I was sitting with my head bleeding a bit, fainting, and not knowing if any of our kids had been hurt on the bus or who was in the car... So the ambulance arrives with siren blaring and lights flashing, they put me on a stretcher, people watching the whole thing outside.Ughhhhh!!! And the ambulance drives off with siren blaring and lighs flashing!!! I felt so stupid. OK, here comes another scary part. There was a VERY quick snow storm that started a few minutes before that was creating a lot of blowing snow, white outs and total nastiness (which probably caused the bus/car accident) and here I am in the ambulance and we have to travel in this weather! Now, the hospital trip took about an hour as we have no hospital in our town! We are slipping and sliding on the roads at times (the driver said it was the WORST time he has EVER been on the road, but he was a GOOD driver!!!) Yikes!
OK, so I'm at the hospital lying on a stretcher in a small room because there were no rooms available (a very SMALL hospital now, but it USED to be big.I was actually born there some 40 something years ago!!!hehe!)
The nurse comes in to check it and says I'll probably need a stitch or 2. A while later my sister and her husband come to see me, we chat about it and have a laugh or 2!. Then a long while after the dr. comes in to see me.He says that he'll clean up the cut and put a stitch in it...well I waited and waited... Now , in the meantime the people that were in the car/bus accident arrive a few minutes after I arrived and the passenger is in bad shape so they are spending a lot of time getting him ready for tranfer to a bigger hospital in another town. The driver walked out of it unharmed (well, he's probably stiff this morning, I'd say though, and has aches and pains) Thank GOD none of the kids or the bus driver were harmed other than a few bruises. ( I heard after)
Oh, this is getting long, sorry.Anyway the nurse comes in and gives me a tetanus shot! (that's good for 10 years!!! haha!) and she asks if the dr. was in to see me.She asked if he checked my pupils, I said no, she was shocked that he didn't.She said someone's going to have to check your eyes in case you have a concussion.Well, no one did... (well, the EMT did when I was in the ambulance, but that's all) Another while later she came in and started telling me how to clean up my cut when I get home...she told me the symptoms of a concussion (headache and throwing up) so if that happens I'd have to get to the hospital again (now the storm is still raging too, so I was HOPING I didn't have a concussion, but no one really knew that) Anyway I was sent on my way a few hours later with the same bloody mess on my head as I got there with. Not a soul cleaned me up, no one at the hospital checked my neck, or even asked (Now, the EMTs did!!!! They are certainly on the ball! I tell you, they were better than doctors and nurses!!!)
The ambulance guys waitied for me there and I came home with them in the ambulance. They were so kind to do that.If not, then someone in my family would have had to come up over the road for me last night and it was not nice on the roads.
Someone got the word to Todd last night at work about what happened but told him it wasn't serious but he decided that he was going to come home anyway.Thank goodness he did because I was wondering how the heck I was going to clean myself up last night.I was figuring I would have to do it with my boys on guard outside the bathroom door, in case I fainted again.
My next door neighbour, who is ALSO an EMT came to visit me last night to see how I was as she was on the scene at the post office because she was across the road in a coffee shop! (yeah a VERY small town where everybody knows you!!!) She was shocked that no one cleaned me up, let alone at least put one stitch in it (She figured yesterday after looking at it at the post office that I would probably need a stitch)! She was also shocked they didn't tell me that I had to be woke up every hour or so last night to make sure I wasn't suffering from a concussion. If Todd hadn't been home I would have had to get one of my boys to wake me.Todd was very tired of course, from working the day shift and then driving home in the storm. He just konked out for a while and Alexander set his cell phone to go off and he checked me a couple of times.Bless his heart! He was so worried last night when his grandmother told him what happened. She had to calm him down by rubbing his arm and telling him I was OK. Imagine a 17 year old getting all worried about his momma! Gotta love him, hey!!! Now, I bet Nathan was worried too, but he is not the type to wear his emotions on his sleeve.
Anyway, that's my excitement for yesterday...Sorry to be so rambly (is that a word, even??) and probably not making much sense!!! I'm home from school today because I'm stiff and sore all over! Thank goodness ,no headache though! So, that's a good sign.

Well, that's it from me!

Enjoy!!!

I got another SNOW DAY!!! How cool!!! But it peeves me to no END when people think that TEACHERS have anything to do with snowstorms and school closing!!! We don't!!! We are not makers of snowflakes! However give us a piece of paper and scissors and we can whip up an awesome paper snowflake for ya, no problem!!! We are NOT the decision-makers when it comes to anything having to do with the school being closed for the day!!! I think SOME people just get pissed that THEY have to take care of their own kids for the day, poor them!!! SOME say that we don't WANT to be teaching, because we happen to whoop it up in our facebook status that we have a SNOW DAY!!! Yeah, whatever! I absolutely LOVE teaching and would not want ANY other job out there.I would never trade with anyone! I love it! I teach grade 6 and I think that GRADE 6 ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If those people wanted snow days and summers off, well then, THEY had the opportunity when they graduated just like I did to get a Bachelor of Education degree, right! Let them teach for 20 years straight and see how happy they would be to get an unexpected day off!!! Let's see how they would whoop it up!!!!!!!!!!! OK, that's all from me...sorry...I haven't done this is a while! Whew!

Valentine Project #6-"Loads of Love" Treat Box

...and yet another EASY gift idea!!! I love using the items I have around the house to make gifts. This one was a container of candy treats that one of my boys got for Christmas.Of course, I DID NOT throw it out!!! Horrors!!!

All you need are:
~Quality Street candy container box
~a sheet of patterned paper (2 sided if possible)
~adhesive such as 2 sided tape
~embellishments such as ribbon, tag, flowers
~candy to fill your treat box (if they've already been eaten! I filled mine with Hershey's Kisses!)

1. Tear off any labels on the container. It is not necessary to get all of the "gluey" stuff off it as it can be used as adhesive later!
2.Cut a strip of patterned paper 2 1/4 X 10. Fit it inside of your container. You will have to trim it a little.
3.Fill the box with your candy treats. Place the cover on it.
4.Cut a piece of your patterned paper 2 3/4 X 10. Fit it around the outside.Trim off excess and adhere the pieces together on the bottom.
5.Embellish as desired. See my photo at the top to get an idea of how I embellished mine.
